Mission

Developing vehicles is a complex process in which the system engineering and virtual development (simulation) departments, both at OEMs and at suppliers, must work closely together. Both departments require digital representations (models) of components and systems in order to ensure that information can be exchanged. These models in turn require functional data as input for parameterization.

The objective of prostep ivip/VDA's FDX project group is to define a standard format for the exchange of data for different component groups between OEMs and suppliers and among suppliers themselves.

Milestones 2021

In 2021, work on versions 3.1 (component elastomer bushings) and 3.2 (component dampers) was completed and published. The two extensions to the standard include - in addition to generally required definitions and definitions - the description of component-specific additional information, measuring instrument parameterization and set-up, and the description of component-dependent functional data.

To support the data exchange, an FDX WF GitHub repository
prostep-ivip-e-v.github.io/FDX was set up.

In addition to the extension of the FDX standard, the cooperation with the newly founded FDX Implementor Forum was established. Furthermore, the exchange with other standardization groups (openMDM, prostep ivip CSE, SmartSE and SysML) took place.

Outlook 2022

The publication of further detailed attribute descriptions for a variety of different assemblies as a supplement to the FDX standard is planned for 2022. These descriptions will be published as FDX standard parts 3.x.

In order to attract more members, FDX WF will introduce itself in a white paper and a detailed report in the prostep ivip PDJ.
