Digital, virtual development is the norm in the automotive industry. Ever better and more detailed models are being used to predict and validate vehicle performance. However, the quality of this work depends to a large extent on the quality of the available parameters. When it comes to geometric data, standards have already been established, but there is still a great need for standards where functional models are concerned. The specification, generation and use of such parameters usually take place at different companies (OEMs, suppliers).
The aim is therefore to define a standard within the framework of the FDX project which can be used to exchange functional data (characteristic values, characteristic curves) in a uniform and machine-readable format.
The standard is based on ASAM-ATFX, adds elements from openMDM and enhances the data model by adding necessary aspects and thus defining it in greater detail. This makes it possible to ensure the required level of reliability, obligation, consistency and process reliability when providing functional data.
Following the publication in part in 2018, the basic recommendation will be published in 2019. Once the underlying data model has been completed, it is intended that additional parts for describing concrete components be published, thus creating the basis for implementations in tools.
A tool for reading and editing the standard will be provided and will allow initial experience with actual implementation to be gained. It is intended that further components (chassis, powertrain) be defined in greater detail based on first full publication.
The standard is to be disseminated more widely, additional interested parties are to be gained and integration in existing tools (simulation, measurement) is to be promoted within the framework of an Implementor Forum.
