Dear prostep ivip members,

With COVID-19 we are not only facing a systemic crisis of our global state of health, but also a stress test for our global economic system and related people and supply chains. Due to these circumstances the prostep ivip board of management decided to cancel the unique prostep ivip Symposium in May. Ensuring the health and the focus on professional issues of our international referees, members and guests is important to us and for the symposium and should not be jeopardized.

At the same time, we believe it is important, that this unique expert community can come together in a year like this, as the new forms of digitization and their related models, data, forms of work, and tools for the technical systems of today and tomorrow do not allow an adjournment. Therefore, we are planning to reschedule the Symposium 2020 for September this year!

The new solutions of Advanced Systems Engineering with the three pillars Advanced Systems, Systems Engineering and Advanced Engineering now require clear and comprehensible steps forward for each industry and each company. It is necessary to move beyond the period of fundamental reflection, going through the following stages with determination and serious commitment:

  1. Status Quo and Need for Action
Where do we currently stand, where do we need to go and why? What novel contribution do I need to make for the development of sustainable technical systems?
  2. The new Priority/Objective
How do we need to position ourselves anew or differently? What changes are necessary for our current digital development model? What new abilities do we want to achieve for a successful Advanced Systems Engineering in the immediate and far future?
  3. Gradual Development and Realization of new Development Possibilities
At what point can we use digital solutions that are already available differently? And where do we bid farewell to the old ways? What systemic connections are to be described and recorded additionally or differently from now on, and what modellings and AI-support should be used? What new simulations should I combine with what data analytics? What new solution elements should I arrange for (e.g. clarifying the role of digital twins)?
All this requires both, a clear head and expert know-how, but also new courage and spirited commitment of those responsible with quite unusual means. This brings us full circle to the Corona crises, which requires: no hesitating, but resolute action with competence and vision. The prostep ivip association has the right people and skills for this endeavor. Let us act!

prostep ivip Symposium 2020: Postponed to September 2-3, 2020

In consideration of the recommendations and evaluations by the Robert-Koch-Institute and the Federal Ministry of Health the prostep ivip board of management decided to postpone the prostep ivip Symposium to September 2-3, 2020. The ICS in Stuttgart remains the event venue. The sharing of information, ideas and knowledge within our community of international experts and executives is at the heart of our Symposium. Due to the current worldwide situation associated with the Corona virus (SARS-CoV-2) an unrestricted gathering of all participants, speakers and exhibitors in May will unfortunately not be possible.

We very much hope that the situation will stabilize until September and that we will be able to come together with many national and international friends and partners. Of course, we will keep you informed about the developments.

We are also gladly available to you for any further questions or concerns.

Stay safe!

With best regards,
the prostep ivip team

Public Relations in times of the Corona Crisis: What can we do for you?

At the moment we are all facing difficult times in many different ways. In the wake of this situation we at prostep ivip want to do our best to support you as our members within the realms of our possibilities.
Your company is now increasingly offering webinars? There is a new publication from your company? Take advantage of our networks to promote these services!

We invite you, dear members, to provide us with information, which we can distribute through our channels.
How it works:
Please contact us by sending an email to
fabienne.kreusch@prostep.org and let us know what you want to point out or suggest to our community: a webinar, a publication, a special feature of your company that could also be of interest to others. Maybe you have some tips on how you plan to keep the company afloat over the next few weeks? Or maybe an encouraging photo you could share? Please, send it to us! Of course, we reserve the right to select what will be published, but in general we offer you the following media to talk about yourself:

Our Newsletter: once a month we provide you with information about the association. Both, in German and English for our national and international subscribers, even non-members.

Our Social Media Channels: we like to use LinkedIn but also XING to publish up-to-date news and information.

Our Member Magazine: the ProductData Journal appears twice a year - in a printed and electronic version. The upcoming spring edition is awaiting your proposals! Here you can pick up suggestions on how you could be present in the ProductData Journal.
Editorial and advertising deadline is April 20.

Dear members, especially in difficult times we at prostep ivip want to be there for you and offer some value added for you and your company. Please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to supporting you – and to receiving your ideas and proposals!

Update on On-Site Meetings

Due to the current contact-restriction or curfew regulations both nationally and internationally project group workshops will be held On-Line as opposed to On-Site. This regulation is valid until further notice, but at least until the end of April.
All project supervisors and partners have already been informed und scheduled workshops have been adjusted accordingly.

We are very pleased to see that work in the project group continues. That project groups are conducting several online-meetings instead of meeting an entire day on-site, in order to keep each other updated on project results and to continue working. Of course, we will keep you informed if new developments occur.

Digital Data Package: Conducting an across-working group Workshop

The DDP working group aims at developing a data exchange format for the support of model-based and collaborative development of products and systems, which enables the exchange of product data across companies and domains taking into account a continuous configuration management. By providing such a data format, called Digital Data Package, companies are able to create a minimal digital thread on the basis of interlinked data exchange standards in order to link and exchange the technical data of a digital twin.

To achieve this goal the exchange with other prostep ivip working groups is crucial. Therefore, representatives of the working groups JT WF/IF, CAx-IF, PDM-IF, LOTAR, 3D MDM, PTM, SysML WF and ReqIF WF came together on March 2 in Darmstadt to exchange ideas and information.

After a short introduction to the goals and activities of the DDP working group and a presentation of the use cases the question that quickly arose was what limits exist - from today’s perspective - for the different formats and how linking between the formats can be achieved.

In addition, each working group briefly presented their current working results and a combination of individual formats they regard as relevant, and some of which are already tested in PoC‘s at some company sites. As a basis for future cooperation, consideration is being given to using the Mars Rover to present the linking of the individual formats in a uniform, standardized way.

Feedback on this meeting has consistently been very positive. It is planned to maintain the communication and mutual exchange, holding additional meetings before the summer break and in the fall.

prostep ivip Webinar: Additive Manufacturing on 03.04.2020 at 14:00 Uhr

During the entire process of additive manufacturing procedures data is being transmitted via an array of interfaces: from producing the required print information and connecting to systems like e.g. PLM, ERP, QS systems to securing continuous „end-to-end” processes.

The aim of the group Additive Manufacturing Interfaces is to examine the interfaces in the process of additive manufacturing with regard to interoperability and security aspects and to promote meaningful standardization.

One challenge lies in describing the relevant data in process chains as uniformly as possible, to avoid being tied to individual solutions early on. The data flow within the process to preceding steps promises further potential.

The webinar will address the following points in more detail:

  • AMI reference process
  • AMI use cases
  • Challenges and opportunities
  • Comparison of reference process with real development/production chains
Association members are entitled to participate in the webinar free-of-charge. Please register by sending an email to
Sarah.Giese@PROSTEP.com and you will receive the log-in data in return.
