Dear Members,

the prostep ivip Symposium goes virtual! Taking the decision against a physical Symposium was very difficult for the entire board, but even under currently foreseeable conditions it would be impossible to hold the event in its usual way.
We therefore decided – together with the sponsors Claas and Dassault Systèmes – for a virtual Symposium on September 2, 2020.

Of course the success of the prostep ivip Symposium relies to a great extent on the many coffee talks before and after the lectures and on the exchange within our great and vibrant community. The sharing of experiences between company representatives, consultants and IT specialists provides a real benefit. Furthermore, solutions are presented to address the pressing challenges of today in a goal-oriented way. We will do our best to transfer this type of exchange into the virtual.

To give everybody near or far the opportunity to participate, we will present the virtual symposium on September 2 free-of-charge. All information on the virtual prostep ivip Symposium can be found at www.prostep-ivip-symposium.org.

The issues addressed by the prostep ivip e.V. like the complexity of product creation, the digitization of processes and products, changing markets as well as other megatrends will remain particularly relevant. Accordingly, members approach us on current issues and projects, which they would like to discuss in more detail. We truly appreciate this exchange, the discussion and the joint further development and will therefore provide room for an intensive exchange even in the virtual format of the „prostep ivip Symposium goes virtual“ on September 2, 2020. The management board team with Dr. Henrik Weimer, Armin Hoffacker, Prof. Dr. Rainer Stark and myself will welcome you from a TV studio at the Stuttgart Exhibition Center and guide you through our international program – as our friends and partners from the U.S. and Asia will join us virtually as well!

We are looking forward to meeting you at the virtual prostep ivip Symposium on September 2! And we will be happy to welcome you in person at next year’s prostep ivip Symposium on May 5 and 6, 2021 at the ICS Stuttgart.

Sincerely yours,
Philipp Wibbing

AI-Market Place – New service offers and events

Since the beginning of the year prostep ivip has been working intensively together with 20 other consortial partners on the development of a digital platform for AI applications in product development - the AI market place.

In addition to internal technical work, like drafting a reference process for product development or collecting use cases, a lot has been done to improve outside representation: e.g we now offer AI potential analyses or AI readiness checks. Find out more about our new offerings at
ki-marktplatz.com/angebote or take a look at our (virtual) events around the AI market place at ki-marktplatz.com/news-events/.

IDXv4.0 Release: Be in the lead when it comes to ECAD-MCAD-Data Exchange!

The aim of the ECAD/MCAD-Collaboration IF is not only to develop a standard for the exchange of ECAD and MCAD data, but to facilitate the implementation of standards for vendors and to support increasingly complex board designs. For this reason we enhanced IDXv4.0 with new functions and significantly simplified the description of items in the format.

Further information as well as examples for the description of elements with the simplified IDX 4.0 format can be found in the „Implementation Guidelines“. The guidelines and the recommendation documents are now available in the prostep ivip media library.

More information on the project group ECAD/MCAD Collaboration is available at our website
ecad-mcad.org or you can contact me directly. We are always interested in getting users of IDX or other representatives from the MCAD world at our table to support additional use cases and requirements.

Is Model Based Verification in your MBSE portfolio?

Industrial companies have taken up the challenge to transform their design, manufacturing, supply chain, and support capabilities with the latest in technology and modern practices. One area of incredible growth is in Model Based Systems Engineering. Key to this is the effective management of the requirements to verification path that takes advantage of all the data generated along the way, ensuring that the product asked for is the product delivered. The prostep ivip Model Based Verification project is building a roadmap for automotive and aerospace where the value of supply chain test and verification data will be demonstrated against OEM requirements using SysML models.

Airbus, Boeing and others are augmenting the prostep ivip Mars Rover platform with SysML based models in preparation for demonstrating an exciting mission on Mars! Using the propulsion system, the project team is preparing for the first set of verification data package transfers between an OEM and a supplier and back. Are you interested in simulating an OEM / Supplier relationship where we demonstrate the value of verification data up and down the digital thread? Contact the project team and find out more!

Enhanced and revised VEC Recommendation published

Despite the Corona lockdown the project group VES Workflow Forum has been very productive in the last months and the results of this work are now becoming visible. After reporting on the relaunch of the ECAD-Wiki in the April newsletter we can now announce that the prostep ivip Recommendation PSI-21 „Vehicle Electric Container (VEC)“ has been published. This version is the third issue of the recommendation published together with the VDA. On the content side it is based on the VEC specification version 1.2.0.

This publication marks a big step towards a consistent and comprehensive model of the physical network in vehicles and the related data. It contains many improvements and enhancements in different areas and publishes changes made since earlier minor versions (1.1.1 - 1.1.3) in form of a formal recommendation. Between this version (1.2) of the recommendation and its immediate predecessor (version 1.1) over 190 issues were addressed.

You will find the recommendation
here.

Model description and XML schema are available for download at the ECAD Wiki.

prostep IVIP Recommendation "3D Visualization in MBSE" available

The JT Workflow Forum developed a recommendation on the use of JT in the context of Model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) in 2019. The PSI recommendation "3D Visualization in MBSE" is now available for download and is free-of-charge for members or subject to a charge for non-members.

In addition to an introduction to MBSE the PSI Recommendation contains numerous use cases and illustrates the application of JT in the context of MBSE (e.g. documentation, communication, interface description, analysis, simulation, etc.).

It also provides an outlook on the future role of 3D visualization and outlines the importance for the new SysML standard 2.0. Recommendations for action in the field of research and development complete the PSI recommendation.

prostep ivip Webinar: Model-Based Verification (MBV)
on 31/07/2020: Inside the Project

The MBV project will specify an approach that includes the verification intent for a set of requirements/functions in a SysML-based architecture. With this approach, OEMs can provide systems models as well as the verification intent and architectural context to a supplier for verification back into the system design. Suppliers can pass back their verification results to the OEM in a similar approach in order to provide confidence information regarding impacted requirements and enable OEMs to reliably take advantage of sub-system results for their system level verification efforts. As part of those efforts a representative systems development lifecycle approach with verification intent integrated in models will be utilized in order to develop a new methodology for integrated verification. The project will explore this approach based on a generic use-case. Based on these developments the team will develop an OEM/supplier interface architecture. The project will deliver fully defined information exchange requirements for this approach and derive recommendation of standards changes or extensions required to foster model-based verification and exchange in industry.

The webinar will address the following points in more detail:

  • Leveraging the prostep rover within the MBV project
  • Model-based verification: The supplier execution scenario
  • Model-based verification: The supplier feedback scenario
  • Discussion of synergies with other projects

prostep ivip members are entitled to participate in the webinar free-of-charge. To register please send an email to Sarah.Giese@PROSTEP.comand you will receive the log-in data in return.

Please make a note of the next webinar scheduled for September 25, 2020 on Project Schedule Management.
