[Anrede] [Nachname],

Taking up the challenges of digitization is one of the main tasks faced by the prostep ivip association. Besides increasing virtuality with regard to modelling in product development and production system development, it will be important in the future to design and manage cyber-physical systems, resulting in a continuous digitization in form of unstructured data streams of highly networked technical systems.

At the annual meeting of the „Plattform Lernende Systeme“ (Germany’s platform for Artificial Intelligence) which was held in Berlin in the beginning of July, the importance of AI-solutions was intensively discussed and an urgent demand for the application of AI in industrial product and production solutions was identified: major efforts and large volumes of funding are envisaged in this field for the coming years.

In this respect, the project „Digital Preparation for Digital Analysis (DPDA)”, headed by MG3, plays an important role. After a preliminary phase the project will be transferred in September to the next consortial phase and the lead will be taken by the Fraunhofer IPK and the TU Dortmund.

In this context I would like to make you aware of a special event this fall: the 19th Production Technology Colloquium (PTK 2019). It will be held September 12 - 13, 2019 in Berlin under the title „Digitally integrated Production“ and will host a special workshop for AI in Engineering and Production.

I wish you all a successful start or continuation of the next digital projects in the industry, in research, and the entire society – and of course a great summer!

Yours sincerely,

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rainer Stark

White paper published by the SSB (Standardization Strategy Board) project group

"Collaborative Systems Engineering on the Basis of Engineering IT Standards" is the title of the white paper recently published by the SSB project group. The Standardization Strategy Board (SSB) is a project initiated by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) and carried out by the prostep ivip Association. It was set up in 2017 with the aim of enabling future cross-company systems engineering, i.e. collaborative systems engineering(CSE), on the basis of engineering IT standards. To do this, the prostep ivip Association analyzed and prioritized the IT standards relevant to systems engineering for the first time in order to derive common strategies and recommendations for their use and implementation. The objective is to achieve end-to-end coverage of the business objects and interfaces needed in the CSE process on the basis of these engineering IT standards.

The recently published white paper presents the work performed by the project group and provides an insight into their content and the results to date. More information on

5 years JT Day – Celebrate with us!

For the 5th time already the prostep ivip Association is organizing the JT Day and is cordially inviting you to the cross-industry meeting of the JT Community. The event will be hosted this year by the Daimler AG in Sindelfingen on November 5, 2019.

Under the motto „JT in Change“ renowned international speakers will report on the transition of JT from a former lightweight visualization format to an interdisciplinary 3D backbone deployed in engineering processes of today’s industry and will give you an outlook on the role of JT in future digitization scenarios.

We are also very pleased to welcome Dr. Siegmar Haasis as keynote speaker, who in his role as CIO R&D Mercedes-Benz Cars will talk about the importance and the application of JT at Daimler AG. Other exciting presentations are being planned and will be published shortly (please refer to
www.prostep.org/en/).

Register now! You can expect interesting live demonstrations, show cases and informative discussions with our exhibitors, referees, and other guests*. Please send us an e-mail with

  • your first and last name,
  • your company and
  • the corresponding contact details
to fabienne.kreusch@prostep.org.

With best regards

Training Course PLM Professional in Fall 2019: Quick Introduction on your way to becoming a PLM-Expert

The efficient handling of product data and development know-how is one of the central challenges in product development today. But developing and controlling PLM projects requires specific competences. The certificate training course PLM Professional provides in 2 steps (Level A and Level B) practical knowledge and skills tailored to the specific problems of PLM. Since 2013 the training has proven its worth as a qualification program at KMUs as well as DAX companies from various industries. More than 120 trained PLM professionals are already applying their expertise in practice. In fall 2019 the Fraunhofer Society will offer the course on the following dates:

Level A (Berlin) - Technologies and Methods of PLM: 23. - 27.09.19
Level B (Stuttgart) – Skills for Conducting PLM Projects: 04. - 08.11.19

Both levels can be booked separately or as a package. After passing the examination you will receive the certificate „PLM Professional“ which identifies you as a recognized expert in this field. For a comprehensive description of the training as well as the online registration, please refer to: www.plm-professional.de.

Symposium 2020 Call for Contribution: the next round starts in September!

The prostep ivip Symposium owes its success and popularity to widely renowned speakers and their challenging lectures – and this is why we need you! In September we will publish the call for proposals for the prostep ivip Symposium 2020 (as from this year in electronic format only). Those who are not yet adequately prepared can now seize the opportunity and start thinking about a possible submission – because the closing deadline is coming up and the number of proposals that can be considered is limited!

The title of the presentation or workshop, a compelling abstract (maximum of 500 characters), and the names of the referees are all you need for submitting a proposal. Very important: only if you joined you can join – of course you have to be a member of the prostep ivip association to submit a proposal. More detailed information is available through our homepage
www.prostep.org/en/ or in the upcoming newsletters.
