[Anrede] [Nachname],

are we transforming fast enough? In a recent speech, this was a question that VW CEO, Herbert Diess asked his executives and called upon them for the speed and courage to radically change course. Diess made it very clear to his management team that the Group's existence depends upon, in particular, the speed of transformation.

Is transformation occurring fast enough? In a recent speech, Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen, put this question to his executives calling upon them for the speed and courage to radically change course. Diess explained to his management team that the group's existence depended largely on the speed of transformation.

There is great concern that the automotive and other industries could be completely left behind by digital transformation! Increasing variance, many innovations and an ever-increasing amount of software are causing complexity to skyrocket. This results in start-up problems because functions and components are not adequately coordinated due to unclear interrelationships. Using current development procedures, we will not be able to solve this problem. We have to reinvent product development! Systems engineering is an effective way of mastering ever-increasing complexity.

However, systems engineering only works through organizational change! Existing silos in development must be broken open and interconnected. All of the development processes must be designed in a way that encourages collaboration between departments. Breaking up existing structures and change must occur in parallel with the development of new products, due to the high pressure of innovation that companies face.
This challenge must be mastered, as transformation is indispensable and closely linked to a company’s future success.

prostep ivip’s ecosystem offers a neutral platform for experts and management, such as with the association’s annual event, the prostep Symposium. Get actively involved and benefit from exchanging experiences, best practices and solutions. Together, we will be successful in taking the speed of transformation to a new level.

Welcome to the ivip-family: new project Model-Based Verification

Representatives from a mixture of OEMs, suppliers and consultants from Aerospace and Automotive as well as academic partners gathered in Darmstadt to kick off the new “Model-Based Verification” (MBV) project. The initiative, which is led by The Boeing Company and coordinated by Fraunhofer IPK, is going to create a road map for merging complementary points of view across various industries within the Systems Engineering Lifecycle for understanding the necessary architectures and integrations needed to achieve verification using SysML models.

The aim of the first workshop was to gain a common understanding of expectations, terminology and schedule. The project outline was refined, and user stories were interactively developed in smaller groups, covering the points of view of OEMs as well as suppliers. These include providing systems models as well as the verification intent and architectural context to a supplier as well as passing the verification results back to the OEM in a similar manner.

The project will deliver fully defined information exchange requirements for this approach and derive recommendation of standards changes or extensions required to foster model-based verification and exchange in industry. Results are planned to be available in the second half of 2021. Interested companies from all industries and tiers are cordially invited to join the project and contribute to the results.

prostep ivip Webinar: JT Workflow Forum on 28/02/2020 at 14h00

The JT Workflow Forum is a joint project group of prostep ivip and the VDA (German Automobile Association) with the aim of establishing Jupiter Tessellation (JT) as process format in the industry. The project’s main task is to specify current and future requirements for the application of JT and to validate them in cooperation with the JT Implementor Forum at various locations of participating companies, as well as to document and prioritize processes in use cases.

Objectives and key topics in 2019 were the industrialization of use cases on the basis of JT in the manufacturer/supplier-cooperation in the context of MultiCAD Collaboration Semantic PMI, kinematics on the basis of JT and AP242 XML, and the application of JT in MBSE (Model-based Systems Engineering), in order to further strengthen JT as an end-to-end process format. The key topics from 2019 will be pursued and detailed in 2020. To this avail, the project work does not only take place in meetings of the JT WF but separately in so-called subgroups which work diligently and very efficiently on providing results for the use cases mentioned above.

The webinar will address the following points in more detail:

  • Review of the 5th JT Day at Mercedes-Benz in November 2019
  • Overview of the key topics (e.g. MultiCAD Collaboration, Semantic PMI, Kinematics)
  • Introduction to the recommendation "JT in MBSE"
  • Participants and contributions to the JT Workflow Forum
Members of the association are entitled to participate in the webinar free-of-charge. Simply send a registration mail to
Sarah.Giese@PROSTEP.com and you will receive the log-in data in return.

Advance Notice: the next webinar will be held on April 3rd on the subject of "Additive Manufacturing".
