[Anrede] [Nachname],

prostep ivip looks optimistically into the new year
For the prostep ivip association the closing year has been a successful one. Neither the cooling of the economy, which lets some members shiver, nor the protectionist ideas and politics in many countries threatening the free movement of goods, services and ideas, have adversely affected our activities. This is because digitization as our principle driving force has lost none of its strength.

Particularly in Japan, companies intend to utilize the phase of economic weakness to be well armed for the digital future, as my colleague on the board Mr. Henrik Weimer noticed during our Systems Engineering Days at NTT Data in Tokyo. The event was an important achievement within the scope of our internationalization and diversification strategy. We were able to win e.g. Toshiba as a new member and generated great interest for our activities among other companies.

After successfully recruiting aircraft manufacturer Boing as a new member in 2018, we significantly increased our visibility on the US market last year. This helps us to attract new members there as well. For the same reason we aim to work more closely with the Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group (A&D PAG), initiated by CIMdata, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to this avail.

Incidentally, our long-time standardization activities in the field of Smart Systems Engineering were one of the main reasons for Boing to join the association. By now, SE has developed into our guiding theme and is complemented by activities and project groups concerned with future-related topics such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and their application possibilities in product development. Some of our members are active in the area of autonomous driving through publicly funded projects like SET Level4to5, thereby providing important impulses to the association work. For many of our activities the Mars Rover, also presented at the IoT Solutions World Congress in Barcelona, serves as a joint test environment.

What I am particularly happy about is that the involvement of our members in the work of the project groups has developed very positively over the past few months. This shows that we are addressing the right topics and underscores the undiminished attraction of the prostep ivip Symposium. As the world’s largest manufacturer-independent conference on the latest trends around PLM and digitization we are able to attract more participants year after year, another proof of how important networking and knowledge edge are and will remain.

We therefore look into the future with optimism, despite the changed economic conditions. For next year we plan to further promote diversification by engaging companies from the mechanical engineering sector and maybe from the shipbuilding industry as well. Digitization is continuously progressing there as well, so that we share an interest in the same issues.

In this spirit, I wish you a good start to a successful new year.

prostep ivip Symposium Call for Contribution: The Die is cast

It was not an easy task the program committee was faced with: after receiving an overwhelming amount of submissions, which unfortunately are too many for the two-day Symposium, it became clear that not all of them could be taken into consideration. Declining relevant proposals is not an easy matter and we know that we have to disappoint many of you.

Still: 4 Tracks plus Workshops – even more PLM on 2 Symposium Days!

What is there to do, when you receive so many good entries? We decided to introduce an additional track! For even more PLM, more red-hot issues, more expert knowledge. In 2020 you will have the agony of choice between 4 parallel lecture slots plus parallel workshops. Not to mention the keynotes, the exhibition and ample opportunities for networking.

We truly hope that those who did not receive a positive response on their submission for the Symposium 2020 will stay on the ball. The association needs you and is looking forward to your submissions for 2021. Because one thing is clear: after the Symposium is before the Symposium. Be part of it!
