[Anrede] [Nachname],

What does the prostep ivip association stand for? Karl-Heinz Streibich, President of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), introduced a very appropriate term at this year’s symposium: Trusted Networked Partnership. A precompetitive network of trust, where user companies, IT vendors and representatives from science and research work together as partners for the benefit of all. Together with software manufacturers, service providers and universities the participating manufacturing companies prepare the basis for the digital future of the industry.

Our standardization efforts in the area of digital product creation and production serve in many cases to establish the technical bases for a genuine, unhindered competition.

Our activities are transparent for all participants and thanks to a variety of publicly accessible publications they are easy to comprehend even for outsiders. An important topic that has been on our mind for many years is e.g. the implementation of the Code of PLM Openness (CPO) in the industry. The Federal Government considers the initiative for more IT openness to be so important, that the BMWI (Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology) has taken on the patronage and also supports the certification program, thereby acknowledging the role of the association as an „honest mediator“ in the dialogue between users, system providers and research.

Prostep ivip also maintains an international network with like-minded organizations, which is continuously expanded. It includes the standardization committees ISO, OMG, DIN, AIA, ASD-STAN or OASIS and associations such as AutomationML, GALIA, GfSE, GPM, JAMA, Modelica, PDES, VDA and VDMA.

The prostep ivip association sees itself as a cross-industry trusted network. In addition to automotive manufacturers and suppliers there are also aerospace companies, machinery and equipment constructors as well as companies from other industries working together to jointly develop requirements for standards. The digital transformation is a challenge across multiple industries, which we can only master together. Openness and standards are key to cooperating effectively in cross-company ecosystems and to creating the new generation of digital champions, which Mr. Streibich referred to April 2019 in Stuttgart.

Use the opportunity for cooperation offered by our recognized trusted network! The boardmembers of the prostep ivip association as well as the office team will be pleased to answer any questions you might have.

Yours sincerely,
Armin Hoffacker

Systems Engineering Day Japan – October 17, 2019/Tokyo, Japan

Functional safety, product liability or traceability become crucial challenges for the automotive industry. European and Japanese manufacturers are heading forward to realize highly automated and autonomous driving cars in smart cities. As one technological enabler, (model-based) systems engineering is seen.

Therefore, the prostep ivip association is currently running nearly a dozen of standardization activities together with other leading organizations, like OMG, Modelica, ASAM, VDA, but also the METI MBD, to form a solid ground for a broad industrial application. These activities are also collaborating with German and European publicly funded mega-projects.

In this context, one of prostep ivip’s strategic aims is to strengthen the networking with Japanese industry representatives. In this spirit, the prostep ivip’s System Engineering Day Japan should be understood. Experts from Japan and Germany will give insight into their approaches and lessons learned.

This event aims to enhance the mutual exchange of non-competitive information and networking between like-minded people from Japan and Germany.

This event is open to all interested people from industry and free of charge. As there is a participation limit, we ask for early registration. Please write a short mail to the given contact, subject “SE-Japan”

Interpreter service (English ↔ Japanese) will be available.

prostep ivip Webinar: Data Preparation for Data Analytics on 30. August at 2pm CEST

The term data analytics has become a catch phrase in the development of new data-based solutions and business models, not just since the vigorously accelerated developments in Industry 4.0. The goal is to harness the potential of modern data analysis technology without much initial effort. In addition to a reduction of expenses, this also means a shortening of the implementation periods and thus a faster amortization of the investments made.

In the detailed analysis of the numerous activities in the field of data analytics, the data acquisition and processing stand out as a hurdle to entry and, as it were, effort drivers in projects. To reduce this effort and to support the phase of understanding and processing the data is therefore inevitable and will be addressed in the DPDA project group. The goal is to develop a reference model based on industrial applications, which helps to increase data availability and to structure data in a meaningful way. On the basis of this understanding, instructions for targeted data processing should be derived.

The webinar has covered the following points:

  • Presentation of the use cases to be dealt with within the framework of the DPDA project group
  • Presentation of a role model for data analytics
  • Presentation of the status of the reference model
  • Vision of the project group
Advance Notice: the next webinar will be held on 27 September on the subject of "Code of PLM Openness”.
