since 2015
The international standard ISO 10303-242, better known as STEP AP 242, is a powerful standard for model-based product development. It was published for the first time in 2014 and is subject to ongoing further development. A technical corrigendum was published in 2016. A second edition will be published in early 2020. The prostep ivip Association's top priority is promoting the widespread use of ISO 10303-242 in industry and interoperability with other standards. The objective of the STEP AP 242 Maintenance project is to maintain the standard. From an organizational point of view, these activities are being performed within ISO TC184/SC 4. In this context, prostep ivip will focus on the suitability of the current functional scope for use in industry and the elimination of errors.
The implementors provided feedback on the 2nd edition, which was released in 2020, and requested minor corrections. These were addressed and implemented in the form of a minor revision. The document is currently in the process of being published by ISO and will be released in early 2022. Functional enhancements to the standard are not included. These will be covered in a 3rd edition. Appropriate planning was launched during the period under review. The user forums have introduced requirements that extend the AP 242 Domain Model to include functionality in the areas assembly PMI and visual issue management. Corresponding capabilities are to be included in the 3rd edition as functional enhancements and have been incorporated in the recently launched New Work Item Proposal (NP).
The AP 242 project group will continue to collect the requirements and feedback from AP242 implementation projects, check them against the standard, determine any resulting issues and develop solutions in close cooperation with the prostep ivip user and implementor forums. The specification of model extensions for the new functionality planned in the areas assembly PM and visual issue management will be the focus of activities in 2022. According to current plans, the 3rd edition of AP 242 is to be published as an international standard at the end of 2023.
The activities for 2022 will also include participation in the corresponding work groups of the ISO and DIN.
