Since 2016
The Standardization Strategy Board (SSB) is a joint project group established by the prostep ivip Association and the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry). The project group was set up in 2016 with the aim of enabling future cross-enterprise systems engineering (collaborative systems engineering – CSE) based on engineering IT standards.
This means that the IT standards relevant to systems engineering are continuously analyzed, prioritized and their maturity evaluated in order to derive common strategies and recommendations for their use and implementation. The objective is to achieve end-to-end coverage of the business objects and interfaces required in CSE processes on the basis of this standard in order to realize the vision of a digital twin.
In 2021, one of the focal points of the SSB's activities was expansion in the direction of cross-enterprise software development. This also included, among other things, the handling of free and open-source software (FOSS) and software vulnerabilities. A white paper was drawn up on the basis of a survey and will be published in 2022 under the title “Flow of Software Components (FoSC)“.
The SSB also took a look at the topic of collaboration platforms, analyzing and evaluating current activities and platforms such as Catena-X, Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) and Mobility Data Space. In addition, 25 standard fact sheets were made available and published as an approved package in version 1.
The SSB also drew up a prostep ivip white paper that summarizes the results and recommendations of the project group. The white paper is available for downloading in the prostep ivip Association's media library.
In 2022, primary focus will be placed on the digital twin. The form a strategy for the mapping and collaborative development of digital twins could take will be examined and evaluated, giving due consideration to emerging platforms and cloud concepts. In addition, a recommendation regarding support for standards by the relevant IT systems is to be published together with the prostep ivip’s Code of PLM Openness (CPO) group. At strategic level, the SSB will examine whether the well-known VDA 4-level model for IT architectures needs to be expanded in this age of platform technologies. The fact sheets are maintained and supplemented on an ongoing basis. The next package is scheduled for release in version 2.
