Standardization Strategy Board (SSB)

Since 2016

The Standardization Strategy Board (SSB) is a joint project group established by the prostep ivip Association and the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry). The project group was set up in 2017 with the aim of enabling future cross-enterprise systems engineering (collaborative systems engineering – CSE) based on engineering IT standards.
To do this, the IT standards relevant to systems engineering have been analyzed, prioritized and their maturity evaluated in order to derive common strategies and recommendations for their use and implementation. The objective is to achieve end-to-end coverage of the business objects and interfaces required in CSE processes on the basis of these IT standards in order to realize the vision of a digital twin based on engineering IT standards.

Milestones 2018

In 2018, focus was placed on expanding the fact sheets for new standards and on the detailed analysis of selected standards with regard to their mapping of key business objects and dependencies. This model provides the basis for developing an initial concept for networking the standards. It provides a solid foundation for the development of solutions for exchanging all the information relevant to a digital twin based on IT standards.
The exchange of ideas and information with the CPO project took concrete shape in 2018, and initial approaches were developed for integrating recommendations for standards within the CPO.

Outlook 2019

In 2019, the results to date will be summarized in a white paper. Collaboration with the Code of PLM Openness (CPO) project group will be stepped up with the aim of developing additional standards-specific content for the CPO. In 2019, the SSB will focus on adding standards relating to software, simulation and autonomous driving in order to make it possible to derive recommendations for these forward-looking topics as well.
