since 2012
The Smart Systems Engineering (SmartSE) project group works together with a group of participants from almost 30 companies and research institutions to develop application-oriented concepts for overcoming common systems engineering challenges. To this end, SmartSE develops recommendations for process design, promotes technical standards for the cooperative development of complex mechatronic systems, and supports the creation of transparency with regard to systems engineering objects both within and across companies
2021, the second comprehensive white paper of Phase IV after "Virtual Electronical Control Units" was published with the white paper "Simulation-based Decision Making and Release". Other core topics are the further development and industrialization of the FMI (3.0) standard, industrial requirements for the System Structure and Parameterization of Components for Virtual System Design (SSP) standard, and new requirements from the perspective of autonomous systems. To conclude Phase IV (ends 2021), SmartSE has started work on a third, revised version of Recommendation PSI 11 "Smart Systems Engineering".
In 2022, SmartSE will enter a new fifth phase of the project. With the mission "Enabling collaborative development and validation of complex products by simulation along a multi tier supply chain", the knowledge gathered from phases I-IV on bilateral collaboration between two partners will be considered from a multi-partner collaboration perspective. Core topics will include: simulation (process) quality, dealing with different levels of abstraction when using simulation, the interaction of systems engineering and agile methods, and extensions to the V-model to deal with systems in environments and with additional lifecycle phases.
