Smart Systems Engineering (SmartSE)

Duration

2012 - 2018

Mission

The Smart Systems Engineering (SmartSE) project group develops application-related concepts for mastering the common challenges posed by systems engineering (SE) together with participants from approximately 30 companies and research institutes. To this end, SmartSE draws up recommendations for process design, pursues technical standards for the collaborative development of complex mechatronic systems and supports the creation of transparency with regard to systems engineering objects. Focus is placed on the challenges posed by SE when it comes to exchanging behavior models between partners in product development and their core technologies.

Milestones 2019

The SmartSE project group will launch phase IV next year and pick up where it left off in 2018. This will involve exploring completely new subject areas, which on the one hand were derived from the results of the previous phase and, on the other, are the result of the trend towards model-based systems engineering due to high levels of complexity and the need to validate autonomous driving.

In the coming project phase IV (2019-2021), focus will be placed on the following areas: (a) simulation-based decision-making (quality traceability), (b) continuation and further development of the FMI standard and its industrialization, (c) development of industrial requirements for the System Structure and Parameterization of Components for Virtual System Design (SSP) standard, (d) modeling and simulation standards for V-ECUs and (e) new requirements from the point of view of autonomous systems (e.g. scenario-based test cases, environment models and the modeling of multiple actors).

Milestones 2018

Building on the results of the previous years, the SmartSE project group published a second, revised version of Recommendation PSI 11 "Smart Systems Engineering".

In 2018, the "Challenges of Interdisciplinary Collaboration" work package was outsourced and pursued further by the SysML Workflow Forum working group. The work packages "Behavior Models and Data Management Integration" and "IP Protection in Collaborative Behavior Modeling" were successfully completed by the end of 2018. This brings phase III of the SmartSE project to an end.
