ReqIF Implementor Forum (ReqIF IF)

Duration

since 2011

Mission

The objective of the ReqIF Implementor Forum (ReqIF IF), which was set up in 2011, is to ensure the interoperability of ReqIF exchange tools. The ReqIF Implementor Forum is where tool vendors come together to come to an agreement on conventions that go beyond the ReqIF standard, conduct interoperability tests, discuss insights gained "in the field", and prepare ReqIF benchmarks. All this is done in close cooperation with the ReqIF Workflow Forum (ReqIF WF), which in its capacity as a user forum harmonizes processes, use cases and test scenarios.

Milestones 2018

The ReqIF IF provided support for the first ReqIF benchmark. This involved examining the reference files provided by the ReqIF WF and making suggestions for revisions. Two partners in the ReqIF IF, Asaro and Requisis, also developed tools for use in the benchmark that allow the quality of the ReqIF files exported from RM tools to be checked. In addition, two test scenarios and test criteria were defined together with the ReqIF WF.

The ReqIF IF discussed the new use cases provided by the ReqIF WF together with the WF in 2018. New conventions were drawn up and documented in the ReqIF Implementation Guide. One convention relating to the merging of requirement attributes that helps ensure interoperability between tools that support individual attributes per requirement and those that do not in this context, is worthy of particular mention.

Outlook 2019

As the broad objective of the second benchmark has already been defined, this objective will be defined in more detail together with the ReqIF WF in 2019. Depending on the results of the 2018 benchmark, new scenarios will be tested and some regression tests will be performed.

The tool vendors are working on implementing the findings of the 2018 benchmark in their tools. Independent findings from the use of tools in practice will also be discussed in 2019, and new conventions will be drawn up as needed.
