Vehicle Electric Systems Workflow Forum (VES-WF)

Duration

since 2016

Mission

The aim of the work performed by the VES Workflow Forum (VES-WF) project group is the creation of a methodological and technical foundation on which to develop a logical mockup. In this context, the KBL (harness description list) and, in particular, the VEC (Vehicle Electric Container) form the basic framework as a digital product model for the entire product lifecycle of a vehicle electrical system. In addition to this technical representation, it is intended that uniform use of models be ensured by means of an agreement on the methodologies and tutorials.

Milestones 2018

Release 2.5 of the KBL was developed within the framework of model maintenance and published as prostep ivip Recommendation PSI 19. The new KBL version includes changes aimed at harmonizing and eliminating existing KBL dialects. In addition, enhancements to KBL 2.4 were included to enable collaboration with VEC modeling. Within the framework of redesigning the wiring harness development process, the project group involved itself with the interface to manufacturing and change management. In order to promote the international dissemination of the VEC, the activities of the project group and the implementation status in the automotive industry were presented to Japanese OEMs and suppliers at an event in Yokohama.

Outlook 2019

The VES-WF is the successor of the project group PDM4VES. The new name is intended to reflect the fact that the project group sees itself as a user forum that develops processes and use cases for wiring harness development and oversees test activities performed in the ECAD IF. The definition of the model extensions required for the manufacturing view and the handling of changes are also topics that will be tackled in 2019. This will lead to a new version of the VEC and publication of a corresponding prostep ivip recommendation. The project group will also provide support for the creation of test models for the ECAD IF.
