since 2003
LOTAR is a project managed under the AIA, ASD-Stan, PDES, Inc. and prostep ivip consortiums. The project goal is to develop, implement, test, pilot, publish and maintain standards designed to provide the capability to archive and retrieve digital product and technical information, including CAD, PDM, Composites, Electrical Harness, CAE and 3D Visualization data, in a standard form that can be read and reused throughout the product lifecycle, independent of changes in the IT environment originally used. The multi-part standard covers the information content as well as the processes required to ingest, store, administer, manage and access the information. It is published as EN/NAS-9300.
Leonardo joined as new member of the project. An update of LOTAR Part 001 was submitted for external ballot and a review of other Basic Parts continued. The 3D Mechanical CAD WG launched a pilot for “assembly with fasteners” and launched the revision of Part 100. The PDM team closely collaborated with the PDM IF on use cases for “as designed/as planned” product structure as well as alternate/substitute part relationships. The Composites WG pro-vided support for the update of the AP242 Recommended Practices. The Electrical WG veri-fied the capability for archiving flexible wire harness definitions and conducted pilots for the “External Element Reference”’ mechanism in AP242. The MBSE team developed a simulation model use case and prototype.
Coordination activities for joint publications are planned with ASD-Stan and AIA. Parts 002, 003 and 007 will be revised, and Part 005 will be updated with regard to electronic signatures. The Mechanical team will deliver Part 132 for Structural Joins for Assembly & Installation. The PDM team will continue to pursue its activities with the PDM IF and prepare Parts 210 and 230 for internal review. The Composites WG will submit its first domain-specific parts for publication. The Electrical team will define new validation properties and quality control rules, and also prepare use cases and test cases for the EWIS IF. The MBSE team will work on defining a model quality standard and promote setting up an MBSE Interoperability Forum based on team deliverables.
