Code of PLM Openness

since 2012

The CPO is an open initiative of the prostep ivip Association and is sponsored by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi).

The specifications and certification measures are aimed at establishing openness and thus ensuring the easy integration of IT in networked IT environments (e.g. corporate networks, IoT). The CPO enables technical IT requirements to be linked with those of the users. It provides a standard catalog of measurable criteria ("mandatory", "desired" and "optional") for the categories interoperability, infrastructures, extensibility, interfaces, standards, architectures and partner relationships.

Please find more information with regard to the initiation and the over 80 committed companies at the Project-Homepage.

Milestones 2018

Work on CPO certification advanced further in cooperation with the BMWi. The first step involved setting up a certification program to establish whether a company is in any position to implement open systems. The feasibility of the program was proven in pilot certification projects. Companies such as CONWEAVER, HCL, PROSTEP, PTC and Siemens PLM were among the first to be certified. Accreditation of the certification program was pursued further and work on developing the content was completed together with the German accreditation body (DAkkS).

At the same time, all necessary documents – the CPO, the certification program and a mapping between the CPO and the certification criteria – were published as the DIN SPEC 91372 series.

Outlook 2019

With the experience gained in 2017/2018 in the context of establishing an accredited CPO certificate for companies and preparing content, focus in 2019 will be placed on developing key performance indicators (KPIs) for certifying the openness of software products.

Further steps are also being taken at EU level and in Japan (in cooperation with the Japanese METI).

The results and the industrial application of the CPO will be presented to the public at the next prostep ivip symposium. Furthermore, additional reports from the field on the application and benefits of the CPO the point of view of users, vendors and service providers will be collected and published.
