since 2018
During the additive manufacturing process, data is transmitted via a large number of interfaces. These interfaces are used for a variety of purposes, from generating the required print information to connecting to systems such as PLM, ERP, QS systems to providing end-to-end protection by establishing a connection to an external blockchain.
The objective of the Additive Manufacturing Interfaces group is to examine the interfaces used in additive manufacturing processes with regard to interoperability and security aspects and to promote appropriate standardization efforts.
The group developed an additive manufacturing reference process that describes the steps involved throughout the entire process chain. Use cases were defined and described within this reference process. The knowledge gained will be published in a recommendation. The AMI group took a close look at the activities being performed by similar, existing AM project groups and kept an eye on evolving initiatives and standards. The group continued to pursue an exchange of information with the VDMA's Additive Manufacturing working group.
It is intended that the reference process be further refined in 2020 to include B2B and B2C scenarios, for example. The aim is to identify best practices for digitalization in additive manufacturing.
