During the additive manufacturing process, data is transmitted via a large number of interfaces. These interfaces are used for a variety of purposes, from generating the required print information to connecting to systems such as PLM, ERP, QS systems to providing end-to-end protection by establishing a connection to an external blockchain.
The Additive Manufacturing Interfaces initiative was launched in 2017 from within the framework of the SAMPL project with the support of the prostep ivip Association. The objective of the group is to examine the interfaces used in additive manufacturing processes with regard to interoperability and security and to promote appropriate standardization efforts.
Following the kickoff event held in 2017, a regular joint project group was set up under the auspices of the prostep ivip Association in 2018.
The group developed an additive manufacturing reference process that describes the steps involved throughout the entire process chain. Use cases were defined and described within this reference process. The AMI group took a close look at the activities being performed by similar, existing AM project groups and kept an eye on evolving initiatives and standards with the aim of making contact and coordinating joint activities as appropriate
It is intended that a recommendation be published in 2019. Among other things, this recommendation will deal with interoperability, security, print parameters that need to be documented after printing, and parameters that are adapted in subsequent print jobs using correction values derived from current print jobs.
