Expanding our portfolio of projects to include publicly funded research projects provides us with an opportunity to establish strategically important innovation-related topics beyond the confines of the traditional association environment and support networking between industry and the research community. Focus is placed on topics relating to AI in engineering and sustainability in product development. We attach great importance to collaborative systems engineering with established projects such as Smart Systems Engineering (SmartSE) and collaboration with international associations, especially in Japan and the USA. A key objective is ensuring that simulation methods and results can be used as recognized methods for certification in the long term.
The digital twin is also becoming a cornerstone of the digitalization strategies being pursued by companies in every industry. The creation of a shared understanding across different industries is crucial to exploiting its full potential. Our new project group “Collaborative Digital Twins (CDT)” is developing a collaborative space that is intended to change the way in which manufacturers and suppliers interact over the long term. The aim is to design architectures in the extended enterprise that make digital-first development strategies and services based on digital twins possible. This initiative is another important step towards the integrated development of technical systems in accelerated cycles involving multiple partners.
The prostep ivip Symposium 2023 has become a mirror of our dynamic industry development. The relevance of the topics covered for our members and the professional community is undisputed. Attracting 650 participants, the event held at the ICS Stuttgart was a great success and further expanded the comprehensive conference program with 4 keynotes, 4 expert panels, 45 presentations, workshops, startup pitches, and science awards. The range of topics covered – from standardization to innovative technology trends and strategic industry approaches – earned the event, which went under the motto “Pioneering Digital Transformation for Sustainable Systems,” rave reviews.
