Collaboration between CIMdata and prostep ivip Association

Darmstadt, 15.08.2019 - CIMdata, the leading independent strategy consulting and research authority based in Massachusetts/USA and the prostep ivip Association based in the German research city of Darmstadt, a globally active, independent network of industrial, IT and research organizations, have created the basis for their future cooperation with a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU, signed by CIMdata President Peter Bilello and prostep ivip CEO Armin Hoffacker, aims to bundle know-how in the collaboration of  Industrial customers from the aerospace and automotive industries, especially in the area of Model Based System Engineering (MBSE).

Member of the board Dr. Henrik Weimer  in particular welcomes the international cooperation: "We want to jointly develop standardized processes and formats for the use of model-based approaches together with the leading automotive and aerospace companies worldwide. By speaking with one voice across all industries, we are striving for rapid implementation in the relevant IT standards."

The industry-oriented, non-profit prostep ivip Association (www.prostep.org) has as its focus digital transformation in product development and production. Systems engineering and the digital twin play a crucial role in this context. prostep ivip defines and aggregates the requirements of manufacturers and suppliers in different industries in order to enable digital transformation in the manufacturing industry. The aim is the digitalization of the entire product development process – from the initial idea through to implementation. This involves setting standards and promoting appropriate implementations.

CIMdata, which represents the Aerospace and Defense PLM Action Group (AD PAG), is focused on PLM and the associated digital transformation and helps its customers transform their product lifecycles. AD PAG, which is managed by CIMdata, is an industry-specific PLM advocacy group that defines trend-setting PLM topics for the aerospace industry and provides support for collaborative research activities that address industry and technology-specific topics, which are prioritized by members. The airframe and engine OEMs that are members of the group are currently promoting joint research activities on a number of prioritized industry and technology-specific topics, including model-based definition (MBD), PLM technology obsolescence management, global collaboration and model-based systems engineering (MBSE).

The Memorandum of Understanding between the two neutral, globally active PLM experts is based on facilitating the implementation of joint activities between AD PAG member companies from the aerospace industry and prostep ivip member companies from first and foremost the automotive industry within the framework of activities – initially in the field of MBSE – over a longer period of time.

The collaboration with CIMdata is just one of the prostep ivip Association's many existing international connections.
