The Standardization Strategy Board (SSB)

The Standardization Strategy Board (SSB) is a prostep ivip association project initiated by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA). The SSB project group was established in 2017 with the vision of enabling future cross-company systems engineering (Collaborative Systems Engineering - CSE) based on engineering IT standards. To this end, the relevant IT standards in this domain are analyzed to derive common strategies and recommendations for action regarding their application and implementation. The goal is to achieve comprehensive coverage of the business objects and interfaces required in the CSE process based on these engineering IT standards, thereby creating the foundation for a cross-company digital twin. Furthermore, the SSB project group identifies new standardization requirements and addresses them to other project groups within the prostep ivip association, initiates new project groups, and, in coordination with the TSC, evaluates opportunities and potential for relevant topics in collaboration with bodies outside the prostep ivip association.

The web seminar will address the following topics in detail:

  • Motivation and challenges in Collaborative Systems Engineering
  • Vision, mission, and SSB results for the digital twin
  • Collaboration with other bodies, including Catena-X
  • SSB standardization cataloging with fact sheets
  • Focus topics for 2025: Sustainability and software-defined products
  • Summary and outlook

Speakers:

Dr. Sebastian Handschuh, Mercedes-Benz AG, SSB Project Leader. Since 2010, he has led and participated in various standardization and digitalization initiatives within the prostep ivip association and serves as a liaison to VDA and Catena-X.
