SimPDM
Term
2003 - 2008
Mission
The objective of the ProSTEP iViP/VDA SimPDM project group is to develop solutions for the integration of simulation and computation in a PDM environment together with users, system vendors and university-affiliated research institutes involved in the areas of product data management and simulation/computation. The solutions and concepts developed in the project group make a valuable contribution to creating an integrated development environment in which computation and design processes can store and process their data and structures in PDM and simulation data management systems in equal measure.
The first version of the SimPDM recommendation has been published as PSI 4. In addition, the ProSTEP iViP White Paper SimPDM is also available.
Publication of the SimPDM recommendation constituted an important milestone in the development of simulation data management. However, development has not yet been completed. SimPDM will be developed further with view to providing better support for a variety of areas and simulation disciplines. This includes both the integration capabilities offered by the SimPDM approach and the functional scope covered by SimPDM.
Up until now, the focus of the work performed in the SimPDM project group lay in providing support for the area involving preprocessing. Version 2.0 of the SimPDM Recommendation is intended to cover data management relating to the area of postprocessing in more depth and develop it further. This will then allow the entire simulation process to be supported by SimPDM.
The SimPDM services, which were defined only as a concept in version 1.0 of the SimPDM Recommendation, will be described in version 2.0 and validated in pilots within the framework of the work performed by the project group.
