PDM User Group
Term
since 2003
Mission
The PDM User Group is a user forum in which the experience gained from concrete implementation projects related to the exchange of PDM data is discussed and recommendations are drawn up.
The PDM User Group recently published Best Practices “CATIA V5 Data Exchange“ and a White Paper on “PDM Integration Strategies”.

PDM data exchanged based on derived CAD formats (e.g. JT)
The work performed is currently focused on the exchange of PDM data based on derived CAD formats such as JT, 3D XML and U3D. To this end, a list of assumptions illustrating the potential and opportunities of this approach was drawn up at the beginning of 2008. The two most important assumptions are:
The need for action will be determined on the basis of these assumptions, and recommendations relating to the topic will be published.
The PDM User Group will also be publishing a ProSTEP iViP White Paper dealing with delta data exchange in 2008.

The costs involved in data exchange can be reduced significantly using derived formats. |
|
Most of the downstream processes can be converted to derived formats. |
