Process Chain Car Electric / AP 212

Mission

The objective of the Process Chain Car Electric / AP212 working group to improve car electric development processes and their integration in the development processes for complete vehicles. Members are pursuing the concept of a Vehicle Electric Container (VEC), which is intended to comprise all the aspects of car electric development:

  • Wiring harness data
  • Logical connection information in different levels of detail and the graphical layout of schematic diagrams
  • Structure (topology) and configuration of a harness, as well as the required components
  • Component descriptions

The subsets of the Vehicle Electric Container have already been published in VDA Recommendation 4964 Harness Description List/Kabelbaumliste (KBL) and the ELOG, KOMP and GEO models. Integration in an overall model will follow by the end of 2008.
Detailed information on the specifications published by the working group:

  • Harness Description List (KBL)
  • Electrological Data (ELOG)
  • Component Model (KOMP)
  • Geometry Model (GEO)

Milestones

  • Development of VDA Recommendation 4964 Harness Description List
  • Maintenance and further development of the Harness Description List
  • Specification of a data model for the electrological components of harnesses in order to describe functions and logical connections
  • Specification of a data model for harness components in order to describe standard part catalogs for connectors, contacts, grommets, etc.
  • Specification of a data model for the harness geometry in order to describe design spaces, the wiring harness and wiring paths
