2009
The visualization format JT is extensively applied in the industry and increasingly considered for further data exchange processes (downstream-applications, long-term archiving etc.). It is not yet resolved definitely for which processes it makes sense to apply JT. In addition the industry calls for quality and reliability when applying JT.
In the beginning of 2009 the specification of JT in version 8.1c was submitted to ISO for standardization. The ProSTEP iViP association is actively supporting this process through the working group WG Maintenance. The release is scheduled for 10/09.
Following the requirements of the industry for support with the use of this future standard, the association and the VDA started a JT-initiative. The task is to define the process requirements, to document them in use cases, and prioritize them. At this time 15 use cases have been documented on the use of JT – from a non-drawing documentation, over design-in-context and simulation, to a digital factory. In addition the use cases and the requirements derived from them form the basis for the JT-Benchmark.
The entire package of measures is meant to provide decision-making support to the members of ProSTEP iViP and the VDA on the use of JT.
