Engineering Change Management (ECM) Internationalization

Term

2008 - 2010

Mission

One of the main objectives of the automotive industry is to reduce lead times in the product creation process while at the same time increasing its quality. It is therefore crucial that changes be communicated and implemented promptly by those involved in development, planning and production according to a defined change process (ECM – Engineering Change Management).

In 2007 the ECM project group brought the work done on this topic, in its previous form, to a successful close. The results achieved by the ECM project group speak for themselves: Two VDA Recommendations for Engineering Change Management (VDA 4965) and Engineering Change Request (VDA 4965-1) as well as a ProSTEP iViP Recommendation for Engineering Change Order (PSI 3-2) were published.

The objective of the project group ECM Internationalization is to internationalize these results at SASIG level (www.sasig.com), in order to put the international cooperation of OEMs and suppliers in the area of ECM on a harmonized footing (processes and data models).  To achieve this aim the group worked on a common understanding of ECM processes and published on the basis of previous results the V1.0 of the SASIG ECM Recommendation.

SASIG ECM Recommendation Part 0 (ECM)

Part 0 of the SASIG ECM Recommendation provides an overview of the processes required to implement ECM. It describes the ECM reference process, its modeling and the underlying partner model. In addition, it describes the basic principles of the corresponding subprocesses (change request, change order, etc.).

SASIG ECM Recommendation Part 1 (ECR)

Part 1 of the SASIG ECM Recommendation supports the communication of engineering change requests (ECR) and decisions relating to these requests. It is based on Part 0 and defines an ECR reference process which allows the neutral synchronization of the internal processes of the partners involved on the basis of ECR messages. This provides efficient support for ECR interaction scenarios (IS) relevant to industry.
