2005 - 2009
The integration of mechanical and electronic components in mechatronic integrated products is becoming increasingly important. Development takes place primarily in separate domains using different CAD tools (ECAD and MCAD). Although powerful software tools are available on the market for the respective disciplines, support for existing processes and systems is reaching its functional limits with regard to collaboration between these systems.
The objective of the ECAD/MCAD Collaboration project is therefore to provide opportunities for true collaboration. With increasing product complexity and the demand for shorter development cycles and an increase in product quality, solutions for implementing close collaboration on the basis the existing ECAD and MCAD systems are thus being developed.
Based on the first version of the ProSTEP iViP Recommendation PSI 5 on ECAD/MCAD Collaboration which was finalized in spring 2008, the companies Mentor Graphics and PTC are now providing first products.
Die ProSTEP iViP project group published version 1.2 of the ProSTEP iViP Recommendation PSI 5 in April 2009. In addition to functional enhancements and the advancement of the data schema this version also documents requirements and use cases for the embedding of ECAD/MCAD Collaboration in PDM systems.
Solutions for the requirements are presently developed by the project group. In addition the information necessary for the downstream-processes (Manufacturing) is to be included into the data model for ECAD/MCAD Collaboration. The group also wants to publish implementation guidelines and conformity criteria.
