Digital Manufacturing

Mission

The Digital Plant project group was launched with the aim of promoting the use of ISO 10303 and related standards for the end-to-end development of products and production tools in the digital plant and drawing up appropriate recommendations for their use. The entire manufacturing process (production planning, plant planning, tooling design, availability of robot descriptions for simulation) is examined, starting with the digital description of the product to be manufactured.

Milestones

The basis for a working group was laid down in the White Paper “The Use of Standards based Data Communication Methods in Automotive Industry”, and a course of action for implementing the standards in practice was presented. Individual topics then needed to be prioritized and the appropriate recommendations drawn up.
A number of workshops were therefore held with the aim of interesting other users. However, due to the low level of interest shown, it is not currently possible to implement the project idea.
Should sufficient interest be shown in the future, a new attempt will be made to set up this project group.
