About 200 members have been using ProSTEP iViP for almost 15 years as an information and communication platform on the subject of product development: emphasis is put hereon the unobstructed interaction of product data, systems and processes.
In the starting years of ProSTEP iViP the primary focus of the member companies – leading manufacturers in the automotive and aerospace industry, system vendors and research industries – was lying on the exchange of CAD-data. An outstanding achievement of this time is the ISO Standard 10303, also known as STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data). Due to the growing digitalization and globalization of product development, production and distribution processes, the requirements of manufacturing companies became more complex and challenging. This phenomenon is reflected in the working areas of the ProSTEP iViP association: in addition to the development of open standards in product data exchange more and more emphasis is put on the creation of processes as well as the controlling of projects cutting across departments, companies or countries – Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Collaborative Project Management (CPM), Requirements Management and Secure Product Creation Processes are just some of the keywords that are discussed and worked on in the round about 15 project groups of the association.
There ProSTEP iViP relies on the one hand on the combined creativity of the three member groups. In the end it is the network of users, IT-vendors and research institutes which makes ProSTEP iViP association a unique institution worldwide. On the other hand the association focuses on the consistent usage and creation of open standards. Complex problems and the different requirements of all players involved in product development are specified in project groups and documented in corresponding use cases. The testing of the resultant data models in pilot implementations gives our members the possibility to develop practical, successful solutions.
Knowledge multiplies by cooperation: therefore we encourage the communication with and among our members by releasing publications and organizing expert conferences, events and workshops.
