OMG PLM Services in Action - A new Standard leveraging Collaboration

Abstract
The OMG Product Lifecycle Management Services (OMG PLM Services) are the most recent attempt of the European automotive industry to capture the increasing demands in collaborative engineering. Adopted as international OMG standard, the OMG PLM Services enable OEMs and suppliers to set up global collaborative environments throughout the whole product lifecycle. Supported use-cases range from browsing and updating product data (e.g. part properties, assemblies and complex product configurations) in distributed PDM systems, engineering change management as well as the exchange of 3D CAD data in both synchronous and asynchronous fashion. Implementations of the standard are targeted to the latest internet technologies (including XML and Web-Services) to enable collaboration partners to seamlessly communicate online everywhere in the world. The vision of OMG PLM Services is to provide the answer to today’s fast changing product-based company collaborations. This workshop is intended to give users and vendors a survey of the standard, already available applications and products of OMG’s new state-of-the-art technology and first experiences in practice. After an opening key-note, a selection of users and vendors present their experiences they have gathered and demonstrate already realized solutions based on OMG PLM Services. Aim of the concluding plenum discussion is to show how the OMG PLM Services can answer the daily challenges of the participants.

Potentiale und Herangehensweise einer SOA basierten PLM-Integration

Abstract
Die durchgängige PLM-Integration ist ein Schlüssel zu Reduktion von Durchlaufzeiten, zur Erhöhung der Prozesssicherheit und damit ein Motor der Innovationskraft.

Service orientierte Integrationslösungen bieten eine neue Herangehensweise um die erforderliche Integrationsarbeit (intern/extern) schnell, effizient und flexibel zu leisten. Erste Referenzprojekte zeigen, dass sich die in anderen Industriezweigen gemachten positiven Erfahrungen mit Abstrichen auf die Automobil- und Flugzeugindustrie übertragen lassen.

Allgemein ist das Verständnis über Einstiegshürden, Nutzen, Umsetzbarkeit, Aufwand und Herangehensweisen jedoch noch sehr uneinheitlich.

Der Workshop soll die Anforderungen der Industrie und die Potentiale einer SOA Transformation zu einem gemeinsamen Verständnis zusammenführen und klären, welche Aufgaben durch Industrie und IT-Vendoren gemeinsam in den kommenden Jahren vorrangig angegangen werden müssen.
